Webbing rings ... and more

My mom and I love jewelry. Not the super-expensive gold kind. The funky, unusual, colorful, relatively inexpensive kind.
So when I got an email from Frisky.com highlighting the Dollybird Web site, I had to check it out. (Though the 'relatively inexpensive' label may not exactly apply.)
Frisky mentioned Dollybird's unusual cobweb necklaces/rings. Perfect for Halloween, my favorite holiday. :) But the site has some other really cool stuff.
Check it out!

Oh! And Frisky also introduced me to awesome (and so me!) typewriter-key rings. Love 'em.

Gosselin circus continues ... but what about the kids?

Despite being one of the original Gosselin Haters, I've tried to not pay attention to their train wreck of a family for the past few years. I've been contacted by a few tabloids about them, but I have nothing new to offer. Thankfully. I gave that up years ago when Kate threatened to sue my employer because of my blog entries about them. Ironic, considering the media circus surrounding them now.
Like I said, I've kept my distance. However, with the latest insanity -- Jon's supposed infidelity, Kate's continuing uber-bitchiness and all the tabloid coverage -- it's impossible not to have some clue about what's going on.
Apparently, their show is tonight and they are planning to make a big announcement. I have never seen their show. Again, thankfully. I can't think of a bigger waste of an hour of my life.
In talking with a friend last night about it all, it hit me just how horrible it all is … for the children. Those eight poor kids will need therapy and quite possibly heavy medication thanks to their parents.
Let's get this straight. They had twins. Then Kate insists they try for more and they refuse to reduce the embryos, saying it's the work of God. So they have six more children. Then they beg and 'pray' for all kinds of free goodies. And guess what? They get it. All of it. Free diapers, free clothing, formula, nannies and helpers and a VAN and a HOUSE and then a TV SHOW.
Then they start CHARGING CHURCHES for speaking engagements. And she has ghost writers help her write some ridiculous books. And the show gains popularity. And eventually they grab the attention of the tabloids and end up being celebrities with people driving by their house all the time, paparazzi following their every move …
But, what about the children? Their bitchy, anal-retentive, rigid, fun-killing mother and whipped-and-beaten-down father have a pathetic relationship. Played out on TV for the world to see, and for the children to hear about the rest of their lives. Kids are mean; imagine if your first years and your parents' dysfunctional relationship were chronicled and broadcast and archived and commented on by thousands of people. Millions, according to viewership numbers from a recent episode.
Kate claims their big announcement will bring peace to the family. What exactly could they say or do that would bring peace to such a broken relationship? Sure, a divorce or separation would at the very least bring Jon peace. And the kids? How would being shuttled back and forth between their parents, constantly being stuck in the middle, bring them peace?
And is all of this going to be further chronicled on a national TV show? Perhaps the best decision they could make right now would be to STOP taping. Turn off the cameras, and then do what's best for the children. At this point, I have no idea what that would be. It's not my business to know.
I can imagine it will be difficult for Kate to give up the show, seeing as she's such a media whore. She loves the attention, the fame, the money. Obviously more than she cares about the state of her family. And certainly Jon is to blame, too, but he's obviously been following her lead for so long, that we have no idea what his true feelings may have been.
The adults here reap what they sow. I could give a shit what happens to Kate or Jon. But their children are the true victims here. I feel such sadness when I think about them and what their lives must be like. I only hope somehow they can be happy. And I hope the cameras go dark, for their sakes.

Is Berks County in need of its own Breakfast Club?

There's a breakfast club in New York that helps its members find jobs ... while having fun doing it.

It was founded by someone who realized she was wallowing in self-pity after losing her job. She realized she needed to discuss her dilemma -- being middle-aged and jobless -- with people in a similar predicament.

The group now has 190 members; 87 of which have found jobs.

Berks County is as dismal as the rest of the country, in terms of job loss and availability. Maybe it's time someone founded our own local chapter.

Music. Free. Good!

I discovered (well saw on Stephenie Meyer's site ages ago but just used) playlist.com. It's awesome!! You can create an account, then add songs to your playlists by searching by song or artist name.

I am using it to try out some artists I heard on the Twilight soundtrack that I think I'd really like. Better to try it for free than buy a whole stinker CD! Plus I added some old songs that I had on CDs that got stolen along with my purse a few years ago.

I highly recommend the site. You can share your playlists, etc. but I just want it for myself. Books and music are my two passions, and any way to get one for free is just fine with me!

Back, baby

I've decided to relaunch my blog. I miss blogging at readingeagle.com. Every day, something grabs my attention and makes me wish I had somewhere to talk about it.

So, this blog is called Hey Mama II because my original blogger.com blog is/was called Hey Mama. But I am not crazy about its tone, so I am reinventing it.

Anyway, I hope you enjoy the experience!
